FAQs

Everything you might want to ask.

From first-time buyers to families reviewing existing cover — the questions we hear most often.

What is term insurance and why do I need it?

Term insurance is a pure life-cover plan that pays a lump sum to your family if you pass away during the policy term. Because it has no investment component, premiums stay low and cover stays high — making it the most efficient way to protect your family's financial future.

How much life cover should I take?

A common guideline is 10 to 15 times your annual income, plus outstanding loans, minus existing cover. If you have dependent children, add a lakh estimate for future goals like education. Our Life Cover Calculator gives you a personalized number in under a minute.

What is the right age to buy term insurance?

As early as possible. Premiums are locked in based on your entry age, so buying in your 20s or early 30s can save you significantly over the policy term compared to buying the same cover later.

Until what age should my policy cover me?

Ideally until you retire or your major financial responsibilities end — typically age 60 to 65. Buying cover well beyond that period sharply increases premium without proportional benefit for most families.

Should I choose level cover or increasing cover?

Level cover keeps the sum assured constant and is the most cost-efficient choice for most people. Increasing cover suits those expecting rising responsibilities (young children, growing loans) but costs more.

What are riders and which ones should I consider?

Riders are optional add-ons like Accidental Death Benefit, Critical Illness, Waiver of Premium and Terminal Illness. We recommend riders based on your health profile, occupation and dependents — never as a default upsell.

Do I need a medical test to buy term insurance?

Most reputable insurers require a medical test above a certain sum assured or age. A medical test is actually in your interest — it strengthens your policy by reducing the chance of claim disputes later.

What happens if I miss a premium payment?

You get a grace period (typically 15–30 days). If you still don't pay, the policy lapses and cover stops. Most insurers allow revival within a defined period with paperwork and possibly a fresh medical check.

Are the death benefits tax-free?

Death benefits under a life insurance policy are generally tax-exempt under Section 10(10D) of the Income Tax Act, subject to conditions. Premiums may also qualify for deduction under Section 80C. Always confirm current rules with a tax professional.

Can I claim tax benefits on premiums I pay?

Yes — premiums up to ₹1.5 lakh a year are eligible for deduction under Section 80C (old regime), subject to conditions. The tax angle should be a bonus, not the primary reason to buy protection.

What is claim settlement ratio and does it matter?

Claim settlement ratio (CSR) is the percentage of claims an insurer paid vs received in a year. A consistently high CSR over multiple years is a good signal, but honest disclosures at proposal stage matter even more for a smooth claim.

What is 'non-disclosure' and why is it dangerous?

Non-disclosure means hiding relevant health, income, occupation or lifestyle information from the insurer. It is the single biggest reason claims get rejected. We help you fill the proposal correctly so your family is never left in doubt.

Does term insurance cover suicide, accidents or Covid?

Modern term plans cover natural death, accidental death and death due to illness including pandemics. Suicide is typically not covered in the first policy year. Exclusions vary by insurer — we walk you through the fine print.

How does Zodo Protect make money?

We are an authorized Axis Max Life Insurance Advisor. When you buy a policy through us, the insurer pays a regulated advisor fee — you pay the same premium you would pay directly. Our advice remains needs-based, not commission-driven.

What support do you provide after I buy a policy?

Lifetime service: annual policy review, help with premium payments, address or nominee updates, and end-to-end assistance for the family at claim time. Buying is one day; support is for the life of the policy.
